War is bad. Peace is good.
What is so difficult to understand?
In Hawaii, we have many military bases. Our service members are our neighbors and friends. We feel relatively safe here because we know they are here protecting us, not off fighting another rich man’s war. Since when has that ever turned out well for anyone?
If you think they are all gung-ho, you are wrong. Military officers are not eager to send their soldiers into war. Ever. Their job is to protect their troops and keep them out of harm’s way. Many have dedicated their entire adult lives to that mission.
The boots on the ground are young men and women with their entire futures ahead of them. Trust me, they would rather die of old age in their sleep, just like everyone else, with all their limbs intact. The young Marine who just moved in nearby also has a pregnant wife. That child would like to grow up with a father, I’m sure. Military wives hold down the fort while their husbands are deployed.
Please don’t say you support the troops and then send them to an unnecessary war (spoiler alert: all war is unnecessary). I won’t believe you.
In Hawaii we don’t make waves. We ride ‘em.
